On a clear August night in 2000, David squeezed into a small Scottish jazz club tucked neatly below the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. He had arrived in Edinburgh on the tail-end of a period living in London with the intent of witnessing the spectacle of the Royal Tatoo, a heart-swelling, yearly festival of bagpipes, kilts and haggis. As thrilling as the Tatoo proved to be, he was unprepared for the spell created by the straight ahead, high energy pulse of an international ensemble of jazz musicians - a Danish pianist, a Brazilian upright bass player, a Scottish drummer - all united by a common language. Right there, stirred by thoughts of Scottish patriot, Robert the Bruce (who, in revolution against English rule, had once scaled the opposing castle cliffs dressed like a sheep), and thoughts of the first time he had heard Brubeck's equally revolutionary "Take Five," David swore that someday he would turn his love of the genre into a passion to speak the same language - perhaps even with a Scottish accent. His middle name IS Kilgore.

For this multi-instrumental musician and songwriter, the opportunity finally came along in 2004, when he picked up his bass to play along with his close friend and jazz collaborator, Larry Schooler. The two began to share musical ideas that were filled with creative, improvisational expression, and the seeds were planted for Three Piece Suit. David's own growth in playing improvisational jazz was greatly informed by his own professional musical project, the genre-bending Plumtucker. David, who was selected as one of the top-5 Singer-Songwriters in Texas by The Texas Music Awards for 2007, performs original music with eclectic styling that combines jazzy pop and americana rock, plays frequently around Austin, and tours nationally and internationally. A new album is coming out in early 2009.

David and his wife Carolyn are native Texans but, between the two of them, have lived in Texas, North Carolina, England, and France.

With Three Piece Suit, Scotland is, hopefully, not very far away.
